Silverdale’s Turner Junkins a Mr Baseball Finalist

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Three of our area’s high school baseball players have been named finalists for the state’s Mr. Baseball award, including Silverdale’s Turner Junkins. The right hander has an ERA just over one, and he’s batting well over .300. Not bad for a kid playing a broken shin.

Said head coach Lance Rorex:”It doesn’t surprise you. You see the work that he puts in. It’s not just February. Even during football hitting in the cages and things like that. Whatever he does in life he does it 100 percent. So it’s exciting. It’s a huge honor for him. It’s deserving.”
Said Junkins:”It was shocking. We have another player on this team who just as well could have got it as I could have. If it wasn’t for my team, we wouldn’t be where we are right now.”
