Singer Craig Morgan sworn into U.S. Army Reserves at 59
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) — Country music singer Craig Morgan joined the U.S. Army Reserves Sunday night.
The 59-year-old is just years away from mandatory retirement from the military.
However, Senator Marsha Blackburn assisted Morgan in joining after the Army fell 15,000 recruits short of their yearly goal.
He was officially sworn in Sunday night at the Grand Ole Opry, in front of a sold-out crowd.
“I’m excited to once again serve my country and be all I can be in hopes of encouraging others to be a part of something greater than ourselves,” Craig Morgan said. “I love being an artist, but I consider it a true privilege and honor to work with what I believe are the greatest of Americans, my fellow soldiers. God Bless America. Go Army.”
Craig Morgan served 17 years in the Army and Army reserves in the past. His certifications include Airborne, Air Assault and Rappel Master.
“The newly sworn in Staff Sergeant and Warrant Officer candidate will continue touring and releasing new music in his civilian career while simultaneously serving our country in the Army Reserve,” a press release on the matter stated.
The U.S. Army says they expect to be short 10,000 recruits again this year.
But Blackburn states that Morgan’s actions helped boost recruitment rates and heighten morale.
“It has been such an honor to work alongside Craig on his return to the U.S. Army Reserve,” said Senator Blackburn. “Craig has long been a champion of our military, with his support spanning his previous active-duty service and an accomplished career in music. His dedication to serving our country exemplifies the very best of the Volunteer Spirit, and I know his story will be an inspiration to Americans considering the call to serve.”
Morgan has been making music since 2000. He is most famous for songs such as That’s What I Love About Sundays, Redneck Yacht Club and Almost Home.
