Skeletal remains found in Whitfield County

Whitfield County (WDEF) —  A Dalton couple discovers skeletal remains while hiking in the western part of Whitfield County.

That was Sunday afternoon in a wooded area near Gordon Springs Road and LaFayette Highway.

The Whitfield county sheriff’s department says the remains have been tentatively identified as 59 year old Gary Wayne Fingerle from Floyd County, Georgia.

Family members reported him missing in November of last year.

He was an avid hiker and his pick-up truck was parked 3 ½ miles from where the remains were found.

Investigators do not think foul play was involved.
