Sledge to be evaluated for competency as two cases are pending including 2022 East Ridge High School incident
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- A man once the center of a controversy at East Ridge High School was also back in court Thursday morning.
Tauris Sledge is facing a charge of domestic assault after a fight with his girlfriend back in May according to an affidavit.
In that affidavit, the girlfriend accused Sledge of hitting her several times after asking him to turn his music down.
Sledge previously was the center of a controversy at East Ridge High School in 2022.
He had gotten into an altercation with a SRO after refusing to participate in gym class activities per body cam footage.
His defense is now asking a judge to grant him a mental competency hearing to see if he’s fit to stand trial on either the school or domestic assault incident.
Hamilton County Judge Amanda Dunn said, “In both of those cases I will order a forensic evaluation to determine both Mr. Sledge’s competency to stand trial and his mental status at the time of the offenses to see if there is a support for a mental capacity defense. So that order we’ll enter today.”
Both of these cases are still pending.
Sledge has not made bail, and remains at the Hamilton County Jail.
