Slow-Poke Bill in Georgia Gains Speed in Legislature

On a good day you may have used the term slow poke.

On a bad day, well, maybe you’ve used some other choice words.

None the less, any people have been held up by these drivers.

Zaakari Webb, a Georgia driver, says, "When you’re in a hurry and you’re trying to get somewhere you obviously don’t want people who are slow poking around."

Georgia lawmakers are so bothered by it that they’re tying to make it a crime, a misdemeanor in fact.

It’s called the Slow-Poke Bill.

It passed the state house and isn’t running out of gas just yet.

However, a lot of people we spoke with say a ticket is too extreme.

Rick Hoppes, a Georgia driver, adds, "I think a warning or something the first time."

Jane Norman, another driver, says, "By all means get over, but I don’t think anyone should get a ticket for that."

The Slow-Poke Bill is on it’s way to becoming Georgia law.

Some representatives feel it will reduce road rage.

Webb adds, "I think it’s easy for the state to come up with revenue enhancement mechanisms to fulfill whatever need they may have at the time."

Like it or not, the bill is picking up speed, even though a lot of questions still haven’t been answered, like how exactly would officers enforce this law if it’s given the green light?
