Snow Storm causes rush to grocery store

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — It is the last day to run errands before the snow hits our area.

Many people are heading out to do just that.

“For the anticipation of this storm coming in, yes,” said Ella Lamb a local resident.

One of the errands that people are heading out to do, is picking up last minute groceries.

Lamb said, “I grew up in upstate New York in the snow belt and I remember a couple of blizzards we had back in ’66 and ‘77 and if you don’t have it you’re going to go without.”

What items are people buying?

“Milk, I came yesterday and got the bread, and eggs. I got toilet paper, paper towels, and paper products because if the power goes out. I live on the mountain so all our wires are above ground because of the bedrock. If we lose power it is hard to wash dishes and that sort of thing,” according to Lamb.

Every snow storm people rush out to buy those items, but why?

Lamb isn’t sure, but that’s all she’s known.

“My whole life that’s what it has been living in New York and upstate New York by buffalo. You get a snow storm so I guess you think you are going to eat breakfast all day long. I did buy meat today so we can still have dinner. We have a gas grill and my stove is gas so I can still cook some stuff.”

When you grow up in New York like Ella Lamb, southern snow storms are no problem.

“This is a joke. I sent my sister a note saying it was 17 degrees here and we are looking at 8-10 inches of snow this weekend. She wrote back that we got 40 inches last week. So no one is feeling sorry for me.”

Snow is going to be hitting our area on Friday.
