SoCon Coaches Pick Chattanooga Mocs to Win League Title

The Chattanooga Mocs are picked to win the SoCon title this fall.
At least according to the conference coaches at SoCon Media Days.
UTC has certainly been among the league’s best teams in recent years, but they haven’t won the conference title since 2015.

Mocs coach Rusty Wright digs the news his team is favored to win the SoCon Title.
Said Wright:”What else are we doing it for right? That’s the whole thing, so we’re looking forward to it. I think 40-something percent of our games in this league are one possession games. I did the math the other day looking back at all the scores. You’ve got to win your share of close games.”
Defensive lineman Marlon Taylor was picked as the SoCon pre-season defensive player of the year.
Wright:”He’s a load. That’s the thing. He’s a load to handle in there. We don’t do a whole lot defensively. We lineup and kind of play, so they can play fast. We are pretty simple compared to everyone else.
Wright believes his team will be good. He’s just not sure how good.
Wright:”The will to prepare has got to be greater than the will to win. Our kids know that. It’s different for us now compared to two or three years ago. Our guys know when things aren’t good enough now. They know when it has been a bad practice or we didn’t play up to our capabilities. They want to handle those things. We’ve got a good core of leaders that will take care of a lot of that.”
