Soddy Daisy Celebrates Improbable Region Championship

What a night for the Soddy Daisy girls basketball team.
They beat Signal Mountain on Wednesday to claim their first region title in 55 years.

When you’re fighting for a region championship, and you score only eight points in the first half. Oof. Had to be a tough locker room at halftime.
Said head coach Katie Wright:”Told them in the locker room. If you’ve got. That first half is over. Can’t get it back. But we’ve got this second half, and you can either quit, or you can gut it up, and toughen up, and get the job done.”
Message received. Victory delivered. Soddy Daisy won 30-26 to claim a rare, region title.
Said Wright:”It wasn’t pretty. We were down most of the game. Then to gut it up in the fourth quarter. That shows a lot of toughness.”
Said guard Candyce Yother:”We just knew if we took it to heart, and we made the changes we needed to make, and we adjusted, then we could pull it out, We wanted it more, and we got it.”
Reality was overwhelming for Coach Wright.
Said Wright:”In the locker room I found myself here in the last couple of weeks when I’m alone just getting really emotional and choked up because I was not ready for this thing to be over. I just love this group so much.”
The emotions and hugs were constant.
Said Wright:”Emotion comes from love. Just nothing but love for this group.”
Reporter:”How many hugs have you had since this game has been over?”
Said Wright:”A lot of hugs. I’ve got a lot of family here. You know my mom is a coach at Webb. My dad is a football coach. My sister plays basketball. This is. Basketball ahs been my life. It has. It has meant everything to me. All the moments I’ve had as a player, there is nothing that can top this moment right here. Nothing.”
