Soddy-Daisy Fire Hall’s Fund Gets A Welcome Donation From Local Businessman

SODDY DAISY, TN, (WDEF)-"The one we have now is coming apart the wall is actually seperating near the rear of the building"

Finance director Burt Johnson says skillern’s support leaves them in a much healthiee position as the cost for a brand new fire house will be 800,000 dollars.

"We have applied for a grant which is we hope 315,000 dollars and the rest of the money will have to be from the city of Soddy-Daisy"

Officials say the new fire house 3, could now be built within a year.

Soddy-Daisy fire fighters say this building is more than 30 years old and they hope these donations will help them move into a state of the art facility as soon as possible.

Fire Chief Mike Guffey,"It just doesnt meet our requirements to get the trucks inside the building now"

Chief Guffey says the new hall is vital for the area as the keep moving from a volunteer to professional department

"We just started a combination dept we were 100% volunteer up until last year then we brought a day time crew in due to high volume calls and low response"

Skillern says he did not want to speak on camera but added he is impressed by the fire fighters efforts thus far and was eager to donate to his community.
