Soddy Daisy’s Eli Christman Among Best Skeet Shooters in America
Hixson, TN-(WDEF) 2017 Soddy Daisy grad Eli Christman has become one of the top young skeet shooters in America.
He just returned home after a tremendous showing at the National Junior Olympic Championships.
Tuesday afternoon Christman gave us a skeet-shooting clinic, and he discussed his promising future.
Said Christman:”So I am an international skeet shooter. This what we have here is American skeet. Two clay targets will fly from the high house and the low house. It’s my goal to hit both of them.”
Reporter:”How the heck do you hit two of them?”
Said Christman:”The gun has two barrels, so you load two shells. Typically it’s the one closest to you or the one that’s going out is typically the one you shoot at first.
Form is the most commonly talked about thing as far as an experienced clay shooter. Typically you start with your feet about shoulder width apart. When you are going to shoot the target, you want to have your weight based slightly towards your front foot. And the gun wants to be at the center line of your body, allowing for a quicker mount to the target. The most important part about hitting the clay is being able to pick it up on time and being able to focus on it. You really want to lock in on the front edge of that bird. That’s the biggest factor in breaking it.”
Reporter:”Tell me the competition you were in.”
Said Christman:”It was the National Junior Olympic Championships in Colorado Springs. I had made it all the way down to the last two. We were tied. We went to a sudden death shoot-off. I unfortunately missed in that, but it’s all fun and games.”
Reporter:”You got second place correct?”
Said Christman:”Yes sir. As of now, I am sitting in third place in the junior points system. I’m currently in line to go to Russia this fall, Moscow, Russia, for the World Championships. There is another part to this points system, so in another week and-a-half I’m flying back out to Colorado Springs to go compete again and hopefully seal the title.”
