Southeast Veterans Museum held it’s 17th “Past in Review” ceremony

20220528 104124The Southeast Veterans Museum held it’s 17th “Past in Review” ceremony before Memorial Day.

The event is held to remember the fallen soldiers from each war. The equipment and uniform showcases begin with the Revolutionary War and end with the war in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Louis Varnell is the owner of the museum, he said it’s important people remember that for many families, Memorial Day isn’t a happy holiday. “A lot of people get confused between it and Veteran’s Day. So, you’ll hear people “Happy Memorial Day”. Well, for a lot of families, it isn’t because it’s a day of remembrance and sadness for their loss,” said Varnell. “So, one of the things we want to do is help remember all of these veterans from the Revolutionary War, all the way to Iraq and Afghanistan. I think we have all of that represented here today.”

Varnell said the event began 17 years ago as a way to honor and remember his dad who served in the military.
