Southern Champion Tray holds hiring event

Food packaging company looks to provide jobs for community

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The folks at Southern Champion Tray held a hiring event at their Chattanooga location just off Amnicola Highway offering a variety of open positions and shifts.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, all were welcome to apply for jobs at SCT, such as general warehouse positions, truck drivers and forklift operators, among others.

SCT’s Corporate Director of Human Resources, T.W. Francescon, was excited to welcome all who were looking for work.

“We are not only hiring here at our distribution center in Amnicola, we’re also hiring at our main production facility in North Chattanooga. We have positions there also on [our] second and third shift.”

UT Chattanooga junior Steven Calderon came to the event hoping to get hired on the company’s three-day, 12-hour shift.

If hired, he’d be able to work a full-time job while still having time to focus on his studies.

“I’ve heard good reviews so far from previous employees and I just thought it’d be a good chance to apply and see what they have to offer, as well,” Calderon said.

Francescon said these job offers are just one way that SCT wants to give back to the local community — something he noted the food packaging company prioritizes in its mission as a business.

“The three pillars of our mission [are] to serve customers, to value people and to glorify God, and we are grateful when people choose to come partner with us to do just that,” Francescon said. “Last year in Chattanooga, we were voted the best overall place to work, which we were blown away with because there are a lot of great employers in Chattanooga.”

The starting pay is $18 an hour at SCT and sign-on bonuses of $1,500 were offered to successful candidates for all positions.
