Sports Big Part of Life at Baylor
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) With more than 270 state titles to its name, Baylor has shown how important success in sports is.
News 12’s Brian Armstrong finds out how they are able to be successful both in the classroom and on the field.
Said Baylor school president Chris Angel: “And we just earned our 274th state championship with girls soccer .”
At Baylor. Sports matter.
Said Angel: “Success breeds success. And fortunately, we’ve been able to have success over a number of years.
Baylor has won state title after state title. And that success is due to all the work not seen on game day.
Said Angel”But what I see is all the hard work that goes into it. Whether it’s out working by themselves, shooting baskets like I saw the other day, or out running by themselves, or just working out and all those hours that no one ever sees. That dedication is what we see paying off here at Baylor.
Said wrestling coach Rex Kendle: :We know to prepare the boys for the highest level of competition, you’ve got to see the best athletes in the country. And so we feel confident in our wrestlers abilities to go on to the next level and wrestle in the Big Ten.
Baylor also prides itself on putting emphasis on both words of student athlete.
Said Angel: “First and foremost, we believe in putting the right adults in terms of coaches with them, just like we do in the classrooms. We’re going to provide the best teaching and the best coaching, and coaches are going to work with them from a young age and help develop them and help maximize their skills.
Said Baylor wrestler Matt Hart:”The academics here at this school are amazing. The teachers, you have a lot of one on one work with the teachers and you really focus on those academics. And likewise with the athletics, they’re pushing you during the day. We have lifts every day during the school day, and the athletics are just. They put a real big emphasis on that, which sets kids up for success at the next level.”
Said Kendle: “It’s wake up at 445 and have a team lift, and then take rigorous classes throughout the day, and then practice, and then sometimes a film session built in there and sometimes another eight cut and travel on the road. And so I think that the partnership between the academic side, the school and athletic side, here we are preparing those kids for that lifestyle.”
