Spurrier Asking Gamecocks Fans to “Scream and Yell” For Vols Game
Last season, Tennessee upset South Carolina for their first win over a ranked team in four years.
This Saturday, the Vols will try to beat the Gamecocks and collect just their second SEC road win since 2010.
Said South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier,"Okay. We’ve got the Tennessee Vols coming into Williams-Brice Saturday night. Late game. 7:35 or 7:39. Something like that. So hopefully our fans will sleep late Saturday morning and be able to stay up and scream and yell. We need some support."
Tennessee and South Carolina both have losing records in the SEC, so each team could use a win on Saturday night.
Said Vols linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin,"We’ve got four games to get to a bowl. Every week is a new season. We’ve got all of our focus on this one game right now."
Said Spurrier,"We’re trying to get bowl eligible. That’s a realistic goal. I like to set them realistically. We need at least two more wins to get there."
Reporter-"Butch Jones says he hasn’t named a quarterback yet. How do you prepare for something like that?"
Chuckles Spurrier,"I didn’t even know he said that. They brought a kid in last week. Joshua Dobbs. He got a couple of touchdowns against Alabama. I believe our defensive coaches and staff are preparing for that kid more than the other kid that has been playing."
Reporter-"Are you opposed to running a two quarterback system?"
Said Vols coach Butch Jones,"I haven’t in the past. Just because I like to have a quarterback get into the rhythm of the game and get a feel for it. But right now, we’re scratching and clawing for every victory we can. Whatever it takes to win football games right now, that’s what we’re looking to do."
Said Spurrier,"All right. All right. See you guys Saturday. We need the fans to come scream and yell like you always do, and hopefully add some inspiration to our guys. Thanks."
