Stabbing at Hamilton County Jail leaves inmate seriously injured
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Hamilton County Corrections Deputies responded to a stabbing incident at the county’s Jail & Detention Center on Monday, January 6, 2025.
The altercation occurred in the George Unit around 1:40 p.m.
Deputies arriving on the scene quickly provided life-saving medical aid to the victim, inmate Jamarie Jones, before advanced medical personnel arrived.
Jones, a known gang member, suffered multiple stab wounds and was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the assailant, inmate Lonta Burress, also a known gang member, used a makeshift weapon, or shank, to repeatedly stab Jones.
Additional medical personnel responded to assist with treating Jones’ injuries.
Inmate Lonta Burress has been charged with the following offenses in connection with the attack:
- Attempted First-Degree Murder
- Two Counts of Aggravated Assault
- Possession of Contraband in a Penal Institution
As the investigation remains ongoing, no further details have been released.
