State Leaders Award Over $600,000 to Hamilton County Cultural and Historic Organizations

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF)-State leaders visited Hamilton County this week to award eight local organizations with much-needed state funding to support  recreational projects across the community.

More than $600,000 inImg 2018 new state grants—distributed through the Tennessee State Museum—will be shared among the selected groups. Each organization was recognized individually, with lawmakers highlighting how the funding will help preserve local history, support arts programming, and address long-standing facility needs.

Hunter Museum of American Art Executive Director Virginia Anne Sharber says the grant will make an immediate difference.

“We’re so thrilled to receive money from the Tennessee State Museum to help us repair two different rooms that we have at the museum that are leaking,” Sharber said. “One of them is over our auditorium space and the other is over our temporary exhibition hallway.”

All eight organizations are expected to begin using the grant money right away to move forward with their approved improvement projects.
