State trooper indicted on tampering with evidence during off-duty incident
BLEDSOE COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper has been indicted on multiple charges, including tampering with evidence.
Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) began investigating allegations into trooper Jeremy Wayne Newcome on August 8, 2024.
Further investigation revealed while off-duty, Newcome responded to a deadly crash in Pikeville that involved a family member who was the driver.
According to the TBI, this week, the Bledsoe County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Newcome with the following:
- Tampering with or Fabricating Evidence
- Official Misconduct
- Accessory After the Fact
Newcome was booked into the Bledsoe County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
