Nashville police are warning residents of a new trend for thieves.

They have noted a spike in thefts they call “sliding.”

That’s when a thief waits for you to get out and pump gas into your vehicle.

They then “slide” into an unlocked door and take whatever is on the seat.

Police say the thieves often target women, because they often put purses or backpacks on the front seat.

Officials say the best remedy is to lock your doors and pay attention when you are pumping gas.
