Stephen Hatchett is the new prosecutor for Bradley, Polk and McMinn cases

Athens lawyer wins 3 person Republican primary for District Attorney in District 10

ATHENS, Tenn. (WDEF) – There will be a new District attorney over four southeastern Tennessee counties this year.

Athens attorney Stephen Hatchett narrowly defeated the current DA, Shari Tayloe.

She had been appointed to replace Steve Crump who took a new position in Nashville.

Hatchett will prosecute cases in Bradley, Polk, McMinn and Monroe Counties.

Three Republicans ran in the primary on Tuesday, with Hatchett winning by just over 5oo votes.

He faces no democrat in the general election, so he will be sworn into office on September 1.

Hatchett posted after the votes were cast, “We did it! Thank you to all of our supporters who worked hard for our campaign. Together, we’re going to make the 10th Judicial District a safer and stronger community.”
