Update on storm damage in Athens, TN
ATHENS, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Athens branch of the Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union was damaged from last night’s storms.
The building sits at the corner of Dupitt Street and Decatur Pike.
The back of the building sustained the most damage.
Debris from the building was scattered across the parking lot and into a neighboring grocery store’s property.
Officials were happy to report that no one was present or injured as the destruction happened.
Cleanup on the Credit Union started early this morning. Local cleanup teams arrived on the scene to inspect, assess and eventually remove debris.
Scott Campbell, a supervisor on the scene, had this to say: apparently the credit union was the only area of major damage that had been seen around the city of Athens.
One resident remarked on the furious winds from last night. “Last night the winds were so bad that the trees were literally bent over at my apartment. My apartment was shaking. Trees, bushes, I didn’t really see any damage to houses, but landscaping yes,” said Miranda Johnson.
We were not able to get any word from officials on the storm or the damage to TVFCU.
The credit union will be closed indefinitely until construction is completed.
