Students Start New School Year
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Class is officially back in session for Hamilton County students, with schools reopening today, August 6, 2025.
District leaders say more than 45,000 students are returning to classrooms this fall.
To prepare families, Hamilton County Schools launched its annual “First Day Ready” campaign, offering back-to-school supply lists, bus route information, nutrition guidance, and access to summer enrichment through its REACH program.
The goal: make sure every student walks in confident and supported on day one.
In terms of safety, HCS continues to follow Tennessee’s mandatory emergency preparedness guidelines.
That includes:
- Fire drills every 30 school days
- Intruder and shelter-in-place drills conducted in partnership with law enforcement
- Evacuation procedures for schools within 10 miles of the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant
District officials also remind drivers to use caution in school zones and follow all school bus laws, especially during pickup and drop-off hours.
The school year is officially underway, and the district says it’s focused on ensuring a safe and successful start for every student.
