The goal for this year was to raise $60,000 dollars in supplies.

Instead, United Way collected more than $95,000 dollars in school supplies across three counties.

This is a 50% increase from last years collection.

Representatives with United Way say the drive is an extension of their focus on education.

"Theres many items that teachers once upon a time there was a limit on how many teachers could have and now those items are unlimited. Were just trying to help our teachers and help our students be better here in Hamilton County," says Kelley Nave, Public Relations Director at United Way of Greater Chattanooga.

Representatives say the increase is credited to a larger target area, more donors and companies donating school supplies.
