Summer Doesn’t Mean The Season For Fresh Veggies Has Passed
Just because Summer is ending.. Don’t give up on fresh fruits and vegetables for your family.
The folks at the Main Street Farmers market remind us this is one of their busiest times of year.
While Corn, Peaches and summer squash are out.. Pumpkins, Greens and hard squashes will keep rolling in until the first hard freeze.
That should be sometime in October.
Amy Tavalin from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture says "All the freshness of fall is coming in as the summer produce is making its way out. So August and September/October, beautiful months to visit a farmers market. So just because school is in session does not mean farmers markets are over."
Padgett Arnold from the Sequatchie Cove Creamery adds "There’s more going on with the farmers market. And I think that is, not only do you know how your product is grown and whether not it’s organic. You also know the people who are growing it".
You can still find late summer veggies like tomatoes.. Peppers and okra at farmers markets right now.
