Supermarket Guru For the Week of 11/3
Up first, Dee Amore Potato Skins.
If you’re too lazy to make your own potato skins these may make you smile. Made from Idaho potatoes, real cheddar cheese and uncured applewood smoked bacon, these are tasty. The spices bring out all the flavor. My one complaint is in microwaving they’re not as crispy as baking. One potato skin is 100 calories, almost 5 grams of protein and has 3 grams of saturated fat. Retails for $8.99 for 24 oz. Total Score is 81.
Saffron Road Korean Style Taco Chicken is a HIT.
This is one of the most clever packages I’ve seen. From a marketing standpoint it’s a food truck and from a cooking standpoint the package actually allows the extra juices to separate and run out. The taco itself is is a soft corn tortilla and the vegetables are abundant and cooked perfectly. The chicken is very tasty, but I wish there were more pieces. Very tasty, but I’d like to see a bit more flavor and spice in the Bulgogi sauce. One taco is 210 calories and 9 grams of protein. Retails for $3.99 for 5 oz. Total Score is 87.
Nate’s Meatless Meatballs Classic Flavor is a HIT.
If you’re looking for a meatless meatball sandwich you have got to get these. Made from soy and vegetable protein, the blend of spices and texture is perfect. These are delicious and with your favorite sauce will be phenomenal. Each meatball is just 30 calories, 1 1/2 grams of fat and over 2 grams of protein. Retails for $5.00 for 10.5 oz. Total Score is 89.
Old Bay Seasoned Fries is a HIT.
One of America’s favorite seasonings now come mixed with Idaho fries. What can you say about Old Bay? That it’s a very flavorful blend of 18 herbs and spices. You can either bake or fry but my recommendation is to bake them and avoid all the extra calories and fat from the oil. One 3 ounce serving is 130 calories and 4 grams of fat. Retails for $3.29 for 20 oz. Total Score is 89.
Evol. Lean & Fit Teriyaki Chicken is the HIT OF THE WEEK.
I know it’s tacky to say but I just love Evol. This is one of the best chicken bowls I’ve tasted in a long time. The chicken is tender and has no antibiotics or hormones and fed a vegetarian diet. The brown rice and vegetables cooked perfectly and the sauce is in perfect harmony. One bowl is 260 calories and 14 grams of protein, but does have 10 grams of sugars. Retails for $4.50 for 9 oz. Total Score is 94.
