Supporting Older Adults in Their Job Search

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – With the job market continuing to evolve in 2025, older workers are continuing to face different challenges when it comes to finding employment.

Companies like AARP are stepping in to offer valuable advice and resources to older adults navigating the hiring process in an increasingly competitive landscape. Experts at AARP say one of the biggest barriers older workers face is ageism despite already having laws prohibiting age discrimination.

With more older Americans working now than ever before, there are roughly 39 million people aged 55 and older in the labor force, and many are looking for a job change.

While looking for a job is hardly easy for anyone, many professionals in their 50s, 60s and 70s face unique challenges that can hurt their chances of getting a new job or advancing in their careers: age bias and discrimination.

Older workers bring expertise, maturity, and perspective, yet are often overlooked for jobs they are qualified for.

With the right tools and mindset, older adults can break through barriers and find meaningful employment. The job market may be evolving, but one thing remains clear: older workers are an invaluable part of the workforce.

With resources from organizations like AARP, U.S. Department of Labor, and a growing emphasis on diversity and inclusion, there are pathways to success.
