SURVEILLANCE VIDEO: Bradley Co. officials find criticizing letter

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) – Bradley County officials are pointing their fingers at a constable, after an unsigned letter criticizing Mayor Gary Davis was found in the downtown post office.

Mayor Davis held a short news conference this afternoon to challenge parts of the letter.

The letter said the mayor could have kept fire damage at the courthouse to a minimum, if he had paid for electronic monitoring of the building.

Parts of the courthouse were damaged by a fire on October 1st.

The mayor had a video of 6th district constable DeWayne Hicks dropping the letter in an elevator at the post office, although he was not called by name.

The letter writer accused the mayor of a cover-up.

We contacted constable Dewayne Hicks, who denied authoring the letter.

But Hicks says he agrees that the damage to the courthouse would have been less, if it had been correctly monitored for a fire.
