Survey: Tennesseans support fining parents when kids miss too much school

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) – How should we handle the problem of kids who miss too much school?

A new survey finds that most Tennesseans support fining their parents.

The number of students who are chronically absent are growing… 26% last year according to the American Enterprise Institute.

More than half of Tennesseans support fining their parents.

The average suggested fine is $22 per day.

But the survey respondents were more sympathetic to students saying they need a break for mental health reasons.

73% support mental health days for kids.
