Dalton Police identify suspect in Kroger shopping center shooting

UPDATE:

Dalton Police made an arrest in the shooting behind the Kroger shopping center.

They arrested 29-year-old Marcus Antroune Freeman, according to the police department.

Authorities charged him with aggravated assault and reckless conduct.

Police stated that a domestic dispute proceeded the shooting and confirmed no one was hurt. They added that Freeman, a Whitfield County resident, fired multiple gunshots behind the store.

The responding officer located Freeman fleeing the scene on foot near Dug Gap Road and took him into custody.

Detectives are still investigating the incident.

EARLIER:

DALTON, Ga. (WDEF) — Dalton Police arrested a suspect after an officer heard gunshots coming from behind the Kroger shopping center.

The police department has not yet identified the suspect in custody.

According to police, no one was injured in the shooting that happened around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

A patrol officer was nearby conducting a traffic stop when they heard the gunshots. That officer responded immediately and detained the suspect.

They believe the suspect was on foot behind Kroger during the incident. There were two vehicles there at the time, which fled when the shooting started.

The Dalton Police Department is still investigating.
