CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Police SWAT and hostage negotiators arrested a man overnight who was wanted for several violent crimes.

The police department said they arrested Michael Harris, 33, of Chattanooga.

Around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, officers on patrol located Harris’s vehicle near his home and confirmed he had active warrants.

Harris was wanted for aggravated assault and attempted criminal homicide.

As police approached, they said Harris ran inside the house and refused to surrender.

CPD obtained a search warrant and called in their SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Team around 12:40 a.m.

Two hours later, negotiators got seven people to leave the house, including some children.

The police department said they spoke with Harris over the phone to negotiate. They finally detained him shortly after 4 a.m.
