SWAT called to home on Belleview Drive in Bradley County

BRADLEY COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – A man is in custody after SWAT was called to a home on Belleview Drive in Bradley County.

Just after 12:30 Saturday, a 911 call came into dispatch about a burglary in progress at Belleview Drive S.E. Deputies responded and noticed a man in the hallway holding a firearm. The man then barricades himself in a back room. SWAT is negotiating with the suspect. Sheriff Watson says he is not cooperating with officials.

Just before 3:00 pm, the SWAT standoff is over when deputies were able to subdue the subject, 63-year-old Michael Long.

Long is in is in custody. Long was taken to a hospital by ambulance for a check-up. At this time charges are pending.

During the press conference, officials told us that one of the charges will be an aggravated assault against an officer because deputies say that Long pointed a gun at officers before barricading himself in the home.

Sheriff Eric Watson praised their efforts in being able to bring the incident to a successful conclusion approximately two hours after the initial call was made.

Sheriff Watson and Neighbors told us that Long had a lengthy criminal history.

Watson says Long’s criminal history included resisting arrest, domestic charges, stalking, public intoxication, and more.

 

Sheriff Watson says a 911 call was made by Michael Long’s mother and that Long later made threats towards police and people in the neighborhood.

After making the 911 call, Long’s mother made it to a neighbor’s house unharmed. Police believe that his unexpected visit startled her. Police say that they were told there has been a history of family issues.

Sheriff Watson told us that after speaking to Long, “he did appear to have some issues. I don’t know what those issues are. Could be mental, could be drugs; however, he wasn’t talking like a normal, stable person. He didn’t get hurt. However, we’re here to serve and protect and anytime you see anyone that doesn’t belong in your neighborhood.. Call in and keep us in your prayers.”

 

Sheriff Watson says that Long told EMS he had taken medication so he was transported to the hospital to be checked out.
