Sweetwater man arrested for making bomb threat at hospital

SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WDEF) — A man was arrested after making threats of mass violence at Sweetwater Hospital Thursday.

Sweetwater Police say Vernon Knode made a phone call threatening to bomb the facility and shoot up the place.

After further investigation, officers were able to take him into custody with help from Chattanooga Police.

The Sweetwater Police Department shared on social media the following statement:
“We want to reassure our community that the safety of our citizens is our top priority, and threats of this nature are taken extremely seriously. We would like to extend our gratitude to the Sweetwater Hospital Association, Sheriff Tommy Jones, Chattanooga Police Department, and Sweetwater Fire Department for their assistance in resolving this situation peacefully.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
