Sylvan Learning of Chattanooga offers ways to teach gratitude this season

Sylvan Learning of Chattanooga’s Center Director John Peoples shares ways to teach children gratitude this season.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Sylvan Learning of Chattanooga pivots from academic focuses to emotional focus by teaching students gratitude during a time of thankfulness.

The Sylvan Learning of Chattanooga offers academic tutoring sessions, enrichment sessions, and more year round.

This season, they are maintaining their academic focus while students are on winter break, but they are shifting gears to teach emotional learning. Center Director John Peoples says they have found that students with a sense of gratitude tend to do better academically.

Peoples shows ways to teach gratitude which include a jar full of statements of gratitude. Over time, the student can reminiscent on what they were thankful for in the past and write some new gratitude statements.

Students can show their gratitude through creativity with a Gratitude Board which uses the classic hand turkey drawings as a tool to identify at least four things the student is grateful for.

For additional ideas, to sign up for tutoring sessions, and additional questions, visit the Sylvan Learning of Chattanooga or call them at (423) 894-8333.
