TBI identifies teen killed in Chattanooga officer involved shooting
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — An officer-involved shooting turned fatal over the weekend. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has now identified the juvenile who died as a result of the shooting.
The TBI identified the person who died as 17-year-old David Mendez Lopez.
The incident happened Saturday night on South Kelley Street in Chattanooga.
Chattanooga police responded to a domestic dispute, where they found a teen armed with a gun. SWAT and hostage negotiators also assisted.
But according to the TBI, “the situation escalated, and officers discharged their service weapons, striking the teen.” They said no officers were injured from the incident, but responders pronounced Lopez dead at the scene.
