TBI investigates officer involved shooting in Monroe County
Man points gun at officers, gets shot
SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WDEF) — The TBI is investigating an officer involved shooting on Thursday. They said it happened just before midnight in Monroe County, Tennessee.
Police received a call about a domestic dispute. The TBI said the man was threatening his family with a firearm.
Officers from the Sweetwater Police Department went to the home on Raby Road.
Sweetwater police said the man had his right hand concealed behind his leg when they arrived, and they repeatedly gave the man verbal commands.
However, the man pointed his gun at the officers, according to the TBI.
Sweetwater police said the man fired his gun at the officers, but no officers were injured.
Two officers then fired at the man, striking him.
The Sweetwater Police Department said the officers immediately called EMS. They also made life-saving efforts.
The man was taken to a hospital in Knoxville, TBI said.
Sweetwater police said the man’s condition is currently unknown.
The involved officers are on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
The TBI said they are attempting to determine the events that led to the shooting.
They stated that they will not release the identity of the officers.
