TBI investigating death of a female suspect in Tellico Plains
Deputies say they were trying to arrest her when she brandished a gun
TELLICO PLAINS, Tennessee (WDEF) – The TBI will investigate the fatal shooting of a female suspect in Tellico Plains Monday night by Monroe County deputies.
Their preliminary report says that the deputies came to a house on Dunn Road around 11 PM to serve a warrant on Jessica Amber Schoverling.
A man met them at the door.
They say as they began to enter the home, they found Schoverling brandishing a firearm and pointing it at them.
One deputy fired his weapon at her.
When they made their way into the house, they found her dead.
None of the officers were hurt.
The sheriff supplied more details on the case.
He says the gun Schoverling held was “Ar-15 style rifle.”
Once deputies fired at her, they backed off and set up a perimeter.
They could not get her to respond.
SWAT officers eventually fired a tear-gas like substance and entered the building.
Sheriff Jones says they found her with gunshot wounds, still holding the gun.
