UPDATE: Cleveland Police Officers Involved in Fatal Shooting

Cleveland, TN (WDEF) – Three Cleveland Police Officers were involved in a fatal shooting Thursday morning, according to the department. The officers responded to a mental disturbance call on Springhill Drive and that a male subject was armed.

When police arrived at the scene, they encountered a white male armed with a shotgun. He was instructed to drop the firearm but he continued to move towards the officers. He then fired a round. Police officers continued to instruct him to drop the weapon. Two of the officers fired their guns, hitting the subject.

The officers called for EMS assistance and attempted life saving measures. The male, later identified as Lloyd Grant McClung, Jr., was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The District Attorney’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation were contacted and assumed responsibilities of the investigation per standard protocol.

The three Cleveland Police Department officers involved were not injured during the event and were placed on paid administrative leave.
