Crews will be performing concrete reparations in various spots causing lane and road closures.

Note that none of this work will be done on holiday weekends.

The following construction work will begin on Friday, August 18 at 9 p.m. It should be finished by 6 a.m. Monday morning on August 21.

Exit 178 from I-24 to US-27 will be reduced to one lane.

The South Market Street, SR-58, exit ramp from I-24 westbound will be closed. Access to South Market Street from I-24 will be via the Rossville Boulevard Exit, 180A, to 20th Street.

Broad and Williams Streets entrance ramps to US-27 North will be closed. To access US-27 North, use Martin Luther King Boulevard. Detours will be posted.

I-24 westbound will be reduced to two lanes near the closed US-27 North ramp. However, TDOT says I-24 eastbound traffic will not be impacted.

Here is a statement from TDOT regarding this upcoming work:

This extended lane closure allows the contractor to work continuously to expedite project delivery, minimize the overall length of time traffic is impacted, and provide safer conditions for drivers and crews working in the area. One lane of traffic will be maintained at all times. Open lanes will be striped accordingly. Traffic control will be in place and signage will be posted guiding drivers through the closure.

There will be significant queuing and delays as a result of this work. Drivers are encouraged to seek an alternate route during this time. This work is weather dependent. Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances cause delays, it will be rescheduled to take place at a later date.

As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and “Know Before You Go!” by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.
