TDOT discusses I-75/I-24 split construction plan

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Traffic jams, detours, and road closures are just the beginning. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is talking through their construction plan for the I-24 and I-75 interchange.

Construction is back for Chattanooga. Phase two is expected to begin in late July on Interstates 24 and 75, leaving many people feeling frustrated.

“It’s gonna be a headache. It’s gonna be a lot of traffic jams, traffic congestions on Moore road, McBrien road and all the roads between the terraces, all the way from Germantown to Spring Creek. And we will also feel some of that on Ringgold road, I’m sure,” said Scott Miller, East Ridge City Manager.

Two widely used bridges are going to be shut down during this process.

“Well I’m not wild about it cause I live a quarter mile from 24. So, I’m gonna hear all that noise,” Miller continued. “I think when we are looking at the bridges, which is probably my main concern, of Moore Road bridge and McBrien Road bridge, we’re talking a year for those two. And they are both going to be done at the same time.”

Miller is hopeful for the project’s success and hopes it is an improvement.

“I’m impressed with how they got this project phased in with a phased approach, and I certainly hope it goes as planned,” Miller said.

During the meeting, many people who attended brought up concerns about noise and speeding.

“In regards to the noise, we are constructing several noise walls, essentially on both sides of I-24, from near Germantown Road to near McBrien Road. And these noise walls will significantly alleviate the noise concerns that residents are currently experiencing,” Rae Anne Bradley, TDOT Community Relations Officer said.

Bradley went on to say that TDOT has no control over speeding through the area.

There will be two more meetings for the community.

One is Wednesday and one Thursday, both at 6 p.m.
