TDOT Suspends Road Closures During the Holidays

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – Braving the holiday traffic will be a little less painful starting Tuesday at noon.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has suspended all lane closures on state routes and interstate routes.

Areas affected include Highway 27 near the Olgiati Bridge, and Interstate 75 near exit 20 in Cleveland.

TDOT says they expect more travelers this year because of the lower gas prices.

Jennifer Flynn, with TDOT, adds, "Beginning at noon on Tuesday December 23rd, extending on until 9 a.m. on January 5th, we will suspend all lane closures in our construction projects on state routes and interstate routes to help people with their travels."

TDOT officials say they try to do this every year to accommodate holiday travelers.
