Teen faces multiple charges, including assault on first responder, after pursuit
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A 19-year-old is facing multiple charges after leading deputies on a pursuit early Sunday morning.
A Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a party on Gable King Drive around midnight.
While in the area, the deputy was alerted about a blue Ford SUV that had nearly hit several people while running a stop sign.
The deputy spotted the vehicle speeding through a residential area and tried to pull it over.
However, the SUV failed to stop, ran another stop sign, and nearly crashed into a ditch while turning onto Woodruff Drive.
According to the affidavit, the Ford then drove toward a dead-end road and hit a mailbox.
The deputy used their vehicle to block the SUV, which was driven by Amonchai Montgomery.
Officials say Montgomery then turned into the patrol car, striking it.
Montgomery was eventually taken into custody with help from other deputies.
Authorities said he showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and had a strong odor on his breat h.
Deputies also found a small amount of marijuana, a marijuana pipe, a handgun, and a twisted tea container in the SUV.
Montgomery, the registered owner of the vehicle, was taken to the Hamilton County Jail.
He is being charged with the following:
- Evading Arrest
- Assault On First Responder
- Reckless Driving
- Reckless Endangerment
- Driving Under the Influence
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Possession of a Handgun While Under the Influence
- Possessing a Firearm with Intent to go Armed
- Vandalism/Malicious Mischief
- Speeding
- Stop Sign Violation (2 counts)
- Financial Responsibility
