Tennessee Aquarium offers indoor option during cold weather
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – As temperatures remain extremely low, many children across the area are still out of school.
For parents looking for ways to keep their families engaged, the Tennessee Aquarium is offering a warm, educational option indoors.
Aquarium officials say being climate controlled makes the facility a popular destination during extreme cold.
Alison Pryor, media coordinator for the Tennessee Aquarium, said visitors can stay warm while learning something new.
“One huge benefit of the aquarium is that we are indoors and climate controlled. When it is bitterly cold outside, we love to have folks come inside, see all the amazing animals, and learn something while they are here.”
From touch tanks to the butterfly exhibit, the aquarium offers a hands-on mix of entertainment and education for all ages.
Senior Animal Care Specialist Holly Gibson explained how interactive exhibits help visitors connect with the animals.
“This water is just as cold as what the penguins are feeling, so you can put your hands in and feel what they feel. It is a great way for people to really understand their environment.”
Gibson added that the aquarium offers daily programs designed to keep families engaged.
“We always have something going on. We offer two penguin programs each day, a dive program, and our education department is often out with animals to teach kids more about them.”
One local mother says the aquarium provides a flexible and family friendly option during school closures.
Aimee Penland said memberships make visits stress free for families with young children.
“With a membership, you can come in and out as much as you want. That is great for families with younger kids who may only want to stay for thirty minutes. You still get the full value because you can return anytime throughout the year.”
Aquarium officials say memberships are available year-round and provide a safe, warm place for families to explore, learn, and stay active during the winter months.
