Tennessee begins registering Fantasy Sports groups

NASHVILLE (WDEF) – Fantasy sports operators are now required to register in the state of Tennessee.

The new law went into affect on July 1st.

It applies to daily leagues like DraftKings and FanDuel.

But it also applies to groups like Yahoo! Sports and ESPN that operate leagues where participants pay an entrance fee.

Free games are not affected.

The players do not have to register, but the companies do.

“Tennessee is one of the first states to enact legislation specifically addressing fantasy sports contests. We look forward to ensuring operators follow the law to offer a new level of consumer protection for Tennesseans who choose to play these online games,” said Secretary of State Tre Hargett.

The division will investigate any complaints submitted to it.
