Tennessee Comptroller’s Office Issues First Evaluation of Education Savings Account Program
The Tennessee Comptroller’s office has issued their first evaluation of the Education Savings Account program.
This is the so-called “voucher” program.
For three years, Tennessee has provided funding from taxes for parents to send their children to private schools.
5000 students are eligible now, but only 3700 have taken part so far.
The report says participation has grown over the last three years.
They found that most of the students using the program are NOT from under performing schools.
Parents who took part seem to be generally satisfied with the program.
The report says lawmakers should still consider improving participation, oversight and telling the public on who qualifies for the ESA program.
