AM Round-up: TN Lawmakers Kill the Car Seat Bill & the Chattanooga Lookouts Get New Uniforms
The Tennessee House Transportation Committee votes to kill a bill seeking to require toddlers to ride in rear-facing car seats until age-two. The bill had passed the Senate unanimously and the House on a 68-19 vote before concerns about a provision requiring children ride in booster seats until age 12 caused a public uproar. Lawmakers also turned down a proposal to allow motorcyclists to ride Tennessee roads without safety helmets.
State Senator Bo Watson and Representative Mike Carter want to let residents in some areas of Tennessee decide whether to stay in their cities. A Senate committee takes up their de-annexation bill today, which targets Chattanooga, Memphis, and Knoxville. If approved, voters in newly annexed areas could petition to vote on whether they would stay in the city or not. 20-years ago, all cities and counties in Tennessee sat down and decided how they would grow together.
The Chattanooga Lookouts get a new look. New uniforms for the ball club will be unveiled today. The Lookouts became a Minnesota Twins affiliate last season, but didn’t update their on field attire. Baseball returns to the Scenic City in three weeks.
