Tennessee maintenance director accused of credit card fraud on the job
State investigators say he bought personal items and copper wire all on a county credit card at Lowe's
HICKMAN COUNTY, Tennessee (WDEF) – The Tennessee Comptroller releases details of the financial investigation that led to the indictment of a Maintenance Director in Hickman County.
Randy Lynn was indicted in December on charges of theft, credit card misuse and official misconduct in his job for the county southwest of Nashville.
The Comptroller’s investigation found he misappropriated almost $30,000 by purchases with county credit cards.
They say that over a five year period, he bought an electric range, a washing machine, vacuum, lawn mower, power tools and Christmas decorations that all went to his house.
The investigation also found he bought more than $17,000 in copper wire from Lowe’s and a local hardware store.
The he sold copper wire as scrap to recycling centers 14 times, after the purchases.
The auditors also identified another $4,500 in purchases that were questionable.
The County fired Lynn from his job.
“County officials must ensure they are taking time to review invoices and supporting documentation for purchases,” said Comptroller Jason Mumpower. “Careful review would have noted that items were being purchased that had no legitimate county purpose, such as a fireplace screen, a bathtub faucet, and a baby safety gate.”
