Tennessee National Guard Rescues Hikers
GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WDEF) -Two rescue missions took place yesterday at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. According to officials around 2 p.m. yesterday, the Tennessee National Guard and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency were notified of a hiker suffering from respiratory distress. The hiker needed medical assistance and transport to a hospital. The hiker was in a remote area southeast of Gatlinburg. The Tennessee National Guard was able to get the patient to the emergency room.
During a second call, the same day the Tennessee National Guard received another notification of a hiker in possible cardiac distress near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The call came in from along the Alum Cave Trails. Crews were able to rush the patient to a nearby emergency room. At this time the condition of both patients is known.
