Tennessee Vols Seeded 3rd in NCAA Tournament
Knoxville, TN (WDEF) – The Tennessee Volunteers are seeded third in the NCAA Tournament and will face 14-seed Longwood on Thursday at 2:45pm on CBS. The Volunteers defeated Texas A&M 65-50 on Sunday to win the SEC Tournament. It was the Vols first SEC Tournament win since 1979.
This is Longwood’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The team won the Big South Conference this year.
Josiah-Jordan James, “We started off the SEC play two and three and a lot of people doubted us but we in the locker room, everybody coaches and players included, never really had held our heads down. We just came in and worked each and every day I mean it’s just the daily grind here. And so I feel like we kept taking steps to get better and we still have a long way to go, but that’s what led us to this point today.”
Tennessee Vols head coach Rick Barnes said, “It’s very hard to win a championship any at any level. Regular season, postseason conference, tournament. You know, is hard. And when and when they do it, it’s something they should enjoy it. And I’m really ecstatic for our program, but for these guys.”
