The police chase that turned into a mountain rescue
DUNLAP, Tennessee (WDEF) – A chase went so far out into the wild yesterday on Fredonia Mountain that the county had to organize a search to recover their officer.
Detectives tried to stop a stolen pick-up Thursday afternoon on Deerhead Road which started the pursuit.
The truck ran next to some woods and the driver fled on foot, leaving a passenger behind.
One of the detectives continued the chase on foot.
But he lost the suspect and then lost his way back.
There was no cell phone coverage.
So rescue crews went in to bring him out
They found the detective, but not the suspect who is still at large.
“Sheriff Bill Phillips and the men and women of the Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all of the agencies and their personnel who came to assist in this search. ‘I would like to name them all but I’m sure one or more would be left out. I just want all of the responding agencies to know we appreciate them very much,’ said Sheriff Phillips.
