CHATTANOOGA. Tenn. — The Salvation Army will be celebrating 133 years in Chattanooga on March 18, 2026.

Captain Harry Roe and Lieutenant H. Henington opened the doors for the first time in 1893 to serve the community of Chattanooga.

The first official “Open Air” meeting was held on March 18 at the corner of Ninth and Market, they say.

The Salvation Army now has three locations in Chattanooga and one in Cleveland.

“We are grateful to have such a wonderful community in Chattanooga. It would not be possible to keep our doors open without the people here who donate and volunteer,”

– Major Douglas McClure said.

The Salvation Army serves 134 countries.
