This Season Will be Last for Fairmount Orchard

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (WDEF) — Fairmount Farms has been a Signal Mountain Staple for over 100 years, but this season will be its last.

Fruit stand operator Jennifer Tamble told us, “So this property has been an orchard since about 1928. It was one of many orchards that operated across Signal Mountain in the last hundred years. So in the 54 year history of Fairmount Orchard. Mr. Roberts has been at the helm since he was a kid making cider here.”

But after over 50 years of operation by the same owner, he’s ready to retire.

The property has already been sold to a new owner, and the historic fruit stand will make this season its last.

“The property did sell. I know a lot of people have been very curious what happened to it. So it did sell to a couple who plan to use the property just to enjoy their home and somewhere to live.”

While the on-site orchard no longer supplies the apples used for Fairmount Orchard’s famous cider, they still get their apples from local Tennessee farms.

This Thanksgiving season will be your last chance to taste some of the beloved local cider.

Jennifer Tamble says, “We’re not just apples, our number one seller is our cider, which is still made fresh on site. Pressed in the back, nothing added to it except what comes out of the apples when they’re pressed. But what’s the holidays without goodies like apple butter, apple sauce. jams, jellies, seasonings, soups and dip mixes?”

Fairmount Orchard is officially closing its doors for good at the end of November.
